Blog Post #1: About Chuck

Chuck Grassley was born on September 17th, 1933 in New Hartford, Iowa. Grassley's mother was one of the first four women to vote in the state and has called Iowa his home for the entirety of his life. Grassley earned his bachelors and masters at Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa, where he studied political science. He his early life working on his family farm, sheering sheet metal, working on a factory farm, and teaching as an adjunct government professor. His family instilled conservative values that still he still holds on to. Grassley is a devout Baptist and to this day Chuck still helps out on the farm.

Grassley started his public service in 1958 when he was elected to the Iowa state legislature and remained there until Iowans voted to send him to the U.S. House of representatives in 1974. Chuck would later win election to the U.S. Senate in 1980 where he still serves to this day.

In the Senate, Grassley found himself to serve as the President Pro Tempore when the Republicans had control of the senate. He has served on numerous committees including chairing committees on finance, the judiciary, and a special committee on aging. Currently Grassley serves on the Joint Committee on Taxation, the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and forestry,  a subcommittee on rural development and energy, a subcommittee on livestock, dairy, poultry, local food systems, and food safety and security, the committee on the judiciary (where he is the ranking member), the senate committee on budget, and the committee on finance.

Grassley gained much of his his national fame from his tweets that he puts out. I would say more about them but they mostly speak for themselves:
